The song has been covered many times. Andy Williams recorded the biggest hit version (#9 on the U.S. pop chart, #1 on the adult contemporary chart for four weeks). The song would also be recorded successfully by Lai himself with a full orchestra, and by Henry Mancini (U.S. #13), Tony Bennett, Rick Astley, Johnny Mathis, Shirley Bassey, and Nana Mouskouri. Williams performed the song with Miss Piggy in an episode of The Muppet Show. There is also a Romanian cover of this song, by Aurelian Andreescu, as well as a French one by Mireille Mathieu. |
